NCFE Level 1/2 Award in Photography
In this creative course, students will learn how to use the camera controls (aperture, ISO and shutter speed) and compose their photographs to take creative, eye-catching images. Students also learn how to edit their images digitally, with all additional written work completed online using the Sixth Form Chromebooks. When possible, we visit picturesque locations (Hanningfield Reservoir, Hadleigh Castle, Papermill Lock, Battlesbridge) to allow students to apply what they have learned in the classroom. The fantastic photos below were created by our students.
In addition to developing their transferable skills (literacy, analysis and practical skills) students will build up a portfolio of images increasing their chances of progressing to Level 2/3 courses after Castledon. The course is also beneficial for students’ wellbeing due to the opportunities to experience the natural world and ‘take notice’ (NHS Five Ways to Wellbeing). It is also a chance to develop photography skills that can be used in everyday life from family holidays to using images for their social media. Many of the courses students study in the Sixth Form are delivered via the Google Classroom platform. As such, students are able to access this at home to complete homework tasks and access learning websites such as BBC Bitesize.
